Phinda Private Game Reserve encompasses an impressive 28 000 hectares of prime wilderness land in the lush northern KwaZulu-Natal. Showcasing one of the continent’s finest game viewing and photographic experiences.
Phinda has been described as “Seven Worlds of Wonder”, with its seven distinct habitats – a magnificent tapestry of woodland, grassland, wetland and forest, interspersed with mountain ranges, dense riverine woodlands, river courses, marshes and pans makes it great for landscapes and unique forest scenes. The rare sand forest, one of the seven worlds of wonder in the northern parts of Phinda is one of the most endangered and unique ecosystems on the planet and is the perfect environment for some of the rarer small mammal species. The shy Red Duiker is found grazing on fallen leaves and fruit and the tiny Suni, one of the smallest antelope species, can also be found as well as the red Toga Squirrel. Phinda is a wilderness sanctuary where intimate encounters and rare discoveries can be experienced firsthand.
Phinda is home to an abundance of birds & wildlife, encompassing 415 species of birds, and mammals ranging from the big 5 to the smallest antelope.
However, it is the fastest of the predators that has a special place here and will be one of our main objectives that you will enjoy on this photographic safari. Having reintroduced cheetah to the area after an absence of over 50 years, Phinda has quickly established a reputation as one of the best places to view and photograph these rare cats.
Along with cheetah, the large population of active Lions produce some great sightings and photographic opportunities. Leopard are tracked on the reserve on a daily basis and you will have a high likelihood of encountering these magnificent animals.
Phinda has yet another attraction for you. You will have the unrivalled opportunity to capture wonderful images of both the White and the endangered Black Rhino, which are seen on a daily basis.
The elegant Nyala antelope is a frequent sight, with the Reserve boasting one of the highest densities of the species. With its dark brown coat, yellow legs, shaggy mane and bushy tail, the male Nyala is particularly spectacular and you should capture images of this photogenic, stately creature.
Elephant, buffalo, hippo, and so much more, as well as 415 bird species, and a terrain that alone is worth your visit to photograph.
Each day, your game drives will be hosted by an experienced ranger, a tracker and a photographic expert, who together provide the best possible opportunities for phenomenal photography. In addition, each vehicle will take only you and five other guests, thereby maximizing your comfort and photographic experience.
And when you have enjoyed photographing some of the most sought after African Wildlife in their natural environment from your private game viewing vehicle, you will return to the luxurious comfort of the Forest Lodge.
