Join Tusk Photo on this unique Madagascar Photo Tour to visit some of the best wildlife photographic highlights Madagascar has to offer. With over 100 species of Lemur in Madagascar found nowhere else in the World this is every photographers dream. Madagascar is also home to many unique and endemic species of Chameleons, Geckos, Insects as well as unique fauna and ecosystems.

Tour Itinerary

  • Arrive in Antananarivo and transfer to our Hotel.

  • After Breakfast we leave Antananarivo and drive to Andasibe / Mantadia National Parks. After dark we do night photography with lemurs and other wildlife.

  • The morning exploring Andasibe /Perinet National park, searching for iconic Indri-Indri. After lunch we will spend time at Lemur Island. After dark we go in search of nocturnal lemurs and other animals.

  • Half day exploring the Mantadia National Park. After lunch we vistit Mitsinjo Forest reserve for the remainder of the day

  • We depart for Andasibe and drive to Manambato where we board a boat and transfer to Palmarium reserve. In the evening we set off via a short boat ride to Aye-Aye Island to photograph the nocturnal Aye-Aye Lemur.

  • We spend the day exploring the Island of Palmarium. Evening we do another Aye-Aye photo session.

  • After breakfast we depart back to Antananarivo

  • Flight to Fort Dauphin and drive to Berenty Private reserve.

  • Explore Berenty Private reserve

  • Explore Berenty Private reserve

  • After breakfast we depart back to Antananarivo

  • End of tour - fly back home

Madagascar Photo Tour 2018

 

Tusk Photo is proud to offer this very unique Madagascar Photo Tour to experience the highlights of one of the most diverse photographic destination in the world – Madagascar Island. This tour offers some of the most unique wildlife photography opportunities Madagascar has to offer and is aimed at those who would like to experience Madagascar and its adventures on the next level. We have put as much as we possibly can into this tour so that each photographer can end up with a variety of images. Everything from Landscapes, Wildlife, Birds and especially Night Photography.

 

Day 1

Arrive in Antananarivo and transfer to our Hotel to meet the rest of the group and settle into our Hotel

Day 2

After Breakfast we leave Antananarivo and drive the 145 km to Andasibe / Mantadia National Parks. This journey of approximately 3h30 takes us through golden Grasslands and rice paddies. Along the way we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant before checking into our hotel later in the afternoon.

After settling in and freshening up we will set off on our first night walk looking for nocturnal Lemur species as well as Chameleons and amphibians. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 3

Today we spend time in the morning exploring Andasibe /Perinet National park. We will walk through the park searching for the iconic Indri-Indri the largest Lemur in Madagascar. We also look for Brown Lemurs, Diademed Sifaka as well as a variety of birds and not forgetting the unique Giraffe necked weevil.

After our morning session in the park we return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch we will spend time at Lemur Island.  Here we photograph habituated lemurs as well as a number of new Lemur species.

Tonight we will have another night walk searching for the elusive nocturnal lemur species.

Day 4

This morning we will spend a half day exploring the Mantadia National Park approximately 1h30 drive from the lodge. Here we search for more Lemur species and the possibility of seeing the beautiful ground roller bird. Mantadia boasts 14 Lemur species, 108 bird species as well as a plethora of reptiles and amphibians.

After leaving Mantadia we drive back to the Village of Andasibe for a late lunch at a local Restaurant.

After Lunch we will visit the Mitsinjo Forest reserve for the remainder of the day before returning to the Lodge.

Day 5

Today we depart Andasibe and drive to the East Coast of Madagascar to Manambato160 km away and approximately 3h30 drive time. Here we will board a boat and transfer approximately for 2 hours towards the Pangalanes Channel before arriving at the Palmarium reserve.

After settling in and Lunch you will have time to explore the lodge grounds before we set off in the evening light via a short boat ride to Aye-Aye Island. Here you will have an opportunity to see and photograph the nocturnal Aye-Aye Lemur an endangered and unique Lemur species.

After our visit to Aye-Aye island we return to Palmarium for dinner.

Day 6

Today after breakfast we spend the morning exploring the island of Palmarium, home to 100 000 palm trees. During our walk we will have the opportunity to photograph a variety of habituated lemur species such as the Black and White ruffed lemur and Brown Lemurs. We will also search for chameleons and amphibians that can be found on the island.

After lunch there will be some free time to explore the lodge grounds or go for a swim in the clear waters surrounding the island.

In the evening we again set off via a short boat ride to Aye-Aye Island and a second opportunity to see and photograph the nocturnal Aye-Aye Lemur.

After our visit to Aye-Aye island we return to Palmarium for dinner.

Day 7

Today after breakfast we depart Palmarium Reserve via boat back to Akanin’ny Nofy where we will embark on the road trip back to Antananarivo. A distance of 786km taking approx. 7h30 drive time, along the way we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant.

On arrival in Antananarivo we check into our hotel for the night.

Day 8

After Breakfast at the hotel we transfer to the airport for our flight of approx. 45 mins to Fort Dauphin where we will meet our guides and drive to Berenty Private reserve about 100km away. The road is in poor condition and the drive can take up to 3h30.

On arrival in Berenty we settle into our rooms before we set off on our first evening walk searching for mouse and Sportive lemurs as well as other nocturnal species.

Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 9 & 10

For the next 2 days we will explore Berenty Private reserve searching for the Verreaux’s Sifaka otherwise know as the Dancing Sifaka. We also search for the delicate Ringtailed lemurs and many species of birds and reptiles. We will explore the Gallery Forest along the Mandrare River and the Unique Spiny Forest as well. In the evenings we will embark on night walks searching for the nocturnal Sportive and Mouse Lemurs as well as the possibility of seeing nocturnal reptiles and birds.

Day 11

After breakfast we will depart Berenty to drive to Fort Dauphin and board our flight back to Antananrivo where we will be transferred to our hotel for the night.

Day 12

Transfer to the airport to catch your international flight home.
