Antarctica Photo Tour & Expedition

November 27th to December 18th 2017

Antarctica is the largest remaining wilderness on Earth and is still relatively untouched by human impact. It covers an area of 14 million sq. km (5.4 million sq. miles) around the South Pole and is covered with an ice sheet 4km (2.5 miles) deep. It has no permanent human population other than a small number of personnel at over 60 research stations run by 30 different nations.

Imagine joining us on this exclusive voyage to the Antarctic region to take advantage of some of the best wildlife viewing in the world.  Many are privileged see Elephant and Weddell and Crab-eater Seals, Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelié Penguins, Orca, Humpback and Minke Whales, Albatross, Petrel’s, Skua and Shag in the luminescent, chilly waters. Imagine seeing the frozen and epic backdrop of the Antarctic region with an intimate and private group of seven photographers, aboard the Sarah Vorwerk II, a 54-foot sailing yacht, with the benefit of a highly experienced crew.  Expanses of icebergs and azure blue water captivate the senses along with a multitude of incredible and rarely photographed wildlife.

The Sarah Vorwerk sets sail on November 27th out of Ushia, Argentina, passes through Tierra del Fuego, then crosses the famous Drake Passage onto the pristine waters, glaciers and icebergs of the Antarctic over three weeks, allowing enough time to immerse in the panoramic and quiet beauty.  The captain is highly skilled and has over 100 Drake Passage crossings on his resume.

The small size of the group allows for freedom and independence of movement, each passenger having input about the boat’s movements each day and the respective travel route.  The itinerary is open and changeable, depending on the action and movement of the wildlife to allow for the best photographic opportunities. We will also have full days photographing at our chosen destinations with our small group size allowing maximum flexibility.

Photographers on board will also have the benefit of our Tusk Photo tour leaders who have produced award-winning photographs and who have travelled to the region on a number of occasions.
