Wim’s News from Campo Grande:
After a really comfortable flight from South Africa – and thank you again, SAA, for the Buss Class upgrade – I arrived, and connected to Campo Grande.
Not expecting much wildlife photography for the day, we went off to enjoy a leisurely lunch at an outstanding fish restaurant.
Then we heard that there were a few Blue-and-yellow Macaws in town, and as soon as lunch was over, we grabbed our cameras and headed to a park. Even before we arrived, we saw the Macaws flying back and forth, in and out of the park. They make such a colourful spectacle against the sky or against the surrounding vegetation – simply gorgeous.
We found that the Macaws are in fact nesting in the park, giving us so much to photograph that we remained until after sunset, and there was simply too little light to continue.
What a start to our safari!
To crown it all, we had dinner at a highly recommended restaurant (Tripadvisor), called Territorio del Vinho. Candle-light, seated next to a glowing fire, outstanding food – it was really romantic, or it would have been if not with rugged safari travellers.
After such an incredible and surprising first day here, we are really stoked about tomorrow – Giant Anteaters – Jabaru – Red-and-green Macaws. There is so much to see and photograph here …
